AWS today announced the public preview of the AWS Well-Architected Agent, an AI-powered service designed to analyze your AWS environment and deliver targeted, contextual recommendations for improving application cost, security, performance, and resilience.

HOW THE WELL-ARCHITECTED AGENT WORKS

The agent analyzes your infrastructure, understands your business goals, and delivers contextual recommendations with ready-to-implement fixes. TechStaged has also covered GitHub opens REST API for repository security advisory comments in public preview.

It correlates utilization metrics, resource configurations, and application topology, and compares them against Well-Architected best practices across more than 65 AWS services.

Recommendations are aligned to declared business goals and include implementation packages with every finding, including cross-pillar trade-offs to help remediation.

  • Context-aware recommendations tailored to your goals
  • Analysis across 65+ AWS services
  • Implementation packages with actionable fixes, including cross-pillar trade-offs

KEY FEATURES

Three core capabilities differentiate the service:

  • Goal-aligned intelligence that replaces flat findings with prioritized, impact-focused recommendations
  • Three-level recommendations, including resource-level findings with dollar impact, consolidated application-wide results, and architectural patterns with IaC changes
  • Optional remediation paths with console-guided steps, IaC updates, or CLI commands

GETTING STARTED

To begin, you create an agent profile to define the scope, specify which accounts and applications to monitor, and set goals for each optimization pillar (cost, performance, resilience, security).

You provide access by provisioning customer-managed IAM roles so the agent can read resource configurations, utilization metrics, and application topology. You can also upload an IaC project (Terraform, CloudFormation, or CDK) for an architecture review and add application context to further tailor recommendations.

  • Create an agent profile in the AWS Well-Architected console
  • Configure IAM access for the agent
  • Upload IaC for architecture review and add application context

AVAILABILITY AND ACCESS

Public preview is available in US East (N. Virginia), US East (Ohio), and US West (Oregon). Workloads can be onboarded from any AWS commercial region.

The agent is delivered by AWS Support and is available to AWS customers with an AWS Support plan.

WHAT THIS MEANS FOR AWS CUSTOMERS

The Well-Architected Agent offers a more contextual approach to cloud optimization by mapping recommendations to business objectives and providing ready-to-implement changes, potentially reducing the effort of manual audits and generic checklists.
